Internet Explorer 9 Release

Internet Explorer 9, Microsoft's latest version of their web browser has gone live. IE9 release updates here...
Internet Explorer 9 Release
The Internet Explorer 9 release is Microsoft's hope of regaining some market share that it has lost to rivals Google and Firefox. Microsoft claims the browser to be way ahead of its competitors. The beta version was released in September 2010 (read: Internet Explorer 9: Beta Version Released), and in this period of 5 months of beta testing, it has been downloaded more than 25 million times around the world.

Microsoft are highlighting the fact that this browser offers better privacy and speed as compared to its rivals. Other important features of IE9 are: it puts itself in the background and allows the user to have a clearer view and hold of the website he logged on to; it is available in around 30 languages; graphics and text rendering is performed by the graphics card and not the CPU, something that increases speed and allows better quality of visuals; there is tracking protection which allows users to have better control over how their information is shared on the web; and this browser supports HTML5. The main aim is that IE9 works more like an application installed on the PC instead of just being a conventional browser.

Andy Zeigler, Privacy Program Manager - Microsoft's IE Team said, "The most exciting thing is, this is a technology that is ready to use today and can provide a meaningful level of protection as you browse around the web. For example, the lists can block companies that collect data about you without your consent, which could be information like your browsing history, the sites you visit, the things you buy online and the videos you watch."

At present, Internet Explorer holds around 60% market share worldwide, while Firefox has a little less than 25%. Google's Chrome is nearing 10%. But the point to be noted is that Firefox and Chrome have eaten a lot into IE's market share over the past year, and Microsoft hopes that this trend will be reversed by the Internet Explorer 9 release. Microsoft also claims that the live version is more than 35% faster than the beta version, and this makes it the fastest browser in the world.
